Sinclair brings a show Jimmy Kimmel back to stations associated with ABC
Sinclair, the second largest operator of the TV station in the United States, suspended the program after Kimmel made controversial notes after the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
The decision coincided with the temporary removal of the ABC program before Kimmel returned to the audience 6.3 million viewers on Tuesday evening – more than a triple of the usual character of the show.
However, almost a quarter of American households could not tune in because of the combined boycott Sinclair and Nexstar, the largest operator of the station in the country. NexStar has not yet confirmed whether Sinclair will follow when renewing the program.
In a statement to the diversity of Sinclair, his decision was formed by feedback from viewers, advertisers and community leaders. The broadcaster also quoted recent violent incidents, including shooting on the associated company ABC in Sacrament, as evidence of the need for responsible programming and respectful public discourse.
The statement was: “In the last week, we have received a thoughtful feedback from viewers, advertisers and communities leaders who represent a wide range of perspectives. We have also witnessed disturbing violence, including a contemptible incident of shooting at ABC affiliate station in Sacrament.
“In our ongoing and constructive discussions with ABC, Sinclair proposed measures to strengthen responsibility, feedback feedback and community dialogue, including the independent Ombudsman of the entire network,” read the statement.
Although ABC and the parent company Disney did not formally accept these proposals, Sinclair insisted that it would continue to support efforts that support transparency and trust.
Speculation has grown that Sinclair’s outage was associated with notes chairman of the Federal Communication Commission Brendan Carr. The broadcaster, however, stressed that his decision to suspend Jimmy Kimmel live! He was accepted independently, reflecting her role as a local broadcaster with duties towards his audience.
The resolution represents a significant step in alleviating the tension between ABC and one of the largest associated operators, even though it now focuses on the NEXSTAR position and whether it will also restore the Kimmel program in the coming days.
