Karnatic singer Sikkil Gurucharan led the demonstration in IIT Palakkad.
Karnatic singer Sikkil gurucharan on Thursday gave lectures at Chembai Music College and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Palakkad. The event was organized by the Society for the promotion of Indian classical music and culture between youth (Spicmacay). Trivandrum N. Sampath accompanied Mr. Gurucharan to the violin and Palakkad Harinarayanan on Mridangam.
Mr. Gurucharan launched his presentation with Saveri Varnam “Sarasooda” at the Chembai College. He showed how beautiful to sing Varnam at three different speeds and mix cardiac music with Hindustani techniques.
Dakshinamoorty sthuthi performed and explained the nuances of Fenadhyuthi Raag. He stressed that music is a universal language that combines people above the borders and differences.
Mr. Gurucharan then carried out Kalyani Ragam crithi and explained the chakra system, where the 72 Melicartha Raagas is grouped into orchards of six. He showed it by singing Kalpanaswaam in six Raagas from Veda Chakra and showing how swarms are changing. He emphasized the importance of practicing multiple raags a day to handle them.
Carnatic Gurrushkle recorded Gurukran, Lemond-Demonstration and Chembel Micus College, Palapukad.
His portrayal of the patriotic song “Hind Deh K Nivasi” in Desh Raaga brought nostalgic memories of old radio days. During the questions and answers, he showed a rare talent to divide complex ideas into simple and digestible pieces.
By bridging art, science
In Iit Palakkada, Mr. Gurucharan, he defined music as a combination of frequency and numbers repeated in cycles and cleverly bridge the gap between art and science. He resonated beautifully with the scientific Iit.
He performed a large audience with his performance of Varnan “Chalam Seya” in Valaji Raaga. His performance “Jagadanand Karak” Thyagaraja in Nattai Raaga was unique, with the violin supplemented by his swars. He also portrayed “Brihaspathe” in Atana Raaga and showed Jupiter’s power and strength.
The choice of Mr. Gurucharan Hamsanandi Ragam Thanam Pallavi was clever, especially because it was also the name of the iIT Palakkad pension.
His performance “Jayathi Jayathi Bharath Mathaa” was a treatment, especially with the unique viruttam “vandemaatharam”. Twin concerts provided an experience to Palakkad’s music enthusiasts.
