Sigma, MIL join hands for indigenous artillery
Aerospace and defense company Sigma Advanced Systems has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Munitions India Ltd, a public defense undertaking. (MIL) to integrate, manufacture and supply 155mm Artillery Course Correction Fuzes (CCFs) along with related components, subsystems and technologies.
Course correction technology allows artillery shells to adjust their trajectory in flight to improve accuracy and operational efficiency. Developing the technology in India would boost the country’s defense manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imports, Sigma said on Wednesday.
Under the MoU, Sigma aims to facilitate technology transfer, qualification, local manufacturing and integration of advanced course correction solutions in India. The program will use a set of course correction guidelines already in use by international customers. It will combine Sigma’s engineering and programming capabilities with its own developed technology and established infrastructure for the manufacture of MIL ammunition.
Sigma said the deal represents a step forward in its efforts to develop next-generation indigenous precision-guided artillery munitions. It will also support the company’s progress across the defense value chain, from precision engineering and manufacturing of subsystems to the development and integration of advanced defense systems.
The partnership will also create a platform to combine international technological expertise with Indian manufacturing and engineering capabilities to meet the evolving requirements of the Indian Armed Forces.
“Our aim is to build meaningful domestic capabilities in the strategically important defense segment,” Sigma Advanced CEO Sunil Kalidindi said.
