The parents of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewal staged a protest outside the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Mansa on Wednesday, alleging that no FIR was registered in their complaint regarding financial irregularities involving the music producer and two others.

The complaint concerns an alleged dispute over unpaid royalties associated with songs released after the singer’s death.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, widely known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district on 29 May 2022. Charges were filed against jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and 26 other accused in the murder case.

On Wednesday, accompanied by their young son, Moosewal’s father Balkaur Singh and mother Charan Kaur sat on the floor outside the SSP’s office and demanded police action on the complaint.

Balkaur Singh said during the protest that he had lodged a complaint with the Director General of Police in June 2025, but claimed that no action had been taken so far.

He said the complaint was later forwarded to the Mansa SSP but no progress was made in the matter.

“Neither (the police) act on my complaint nor return it. The SSP will not take any action in this matter,” he said.

Balkaur Singh added that if the complaint is found to be false, it should be returned to him.

He further stated that he was forced to stage the sit-in due to the continued inaction of the authorities. According to him, he made several visits to the SSP office seeking action but to no avail.

Later in the day, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Bathinda Range) Harjit Singh summoned the couple for a meeting.

Criticizing the alleged delay in registering the FIR, Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring said every citizen has the right to formally register a complaint.

“If the police do not intervene, one will be forced to stage a protest. The entire Congress is with the Moosewala family,” he said.

Police have yet to issue an official statement on the allegations made by the family.
