
Siddapur police busted an inter-state sandalwood smuggling racket and arrested four men in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel intercepted a truck which was accompanied by an SUV in Someshwara Nagar.
While checking the vehicle, the police allegedly found 250 pieces of sandalwood weighing 750 kg. Pieces of sandalwood were packed in sacks and hidden under onions to mask the smell.
The police recovered the pieces and the value of the seized items was estimated to be around ₹1.12 million.
Police arrested Sheikh Abdul Khadar and Sheikh Sharukh who were accompanying the truck driven by Parameshwar and Ram Bhoopal.
The accused hail from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. They were working for a smuggler identified as Siraj. The recipient of the contraband was identified as Ravi.
The police have launched an investigation.
