Sickle Cell Awareness Program organized at Chittoor School
An awareness program on sickle cell anemia was conducted at the Government Tribal Welfare Girls Hostel in Chittoor on Saturday. Medical and health department officials spoke about the importance of early screening and early medical intervention.
Addressing the students and staff, District Medical Officer Naga Sashibhushan Reddy said sickle cell disease is a hereditary and serious blood disorder and not a contagious disease and explained to the students its symptoms, diagnostic tests, preventive measures and the need to adopt healthy lifestyle practices.
Field workers talked about the role of a balanced diet, regular health check-ups and government programs aimed at eliminating disease. They advised students to see a doctor or inform their supervisors immediately if they notice any suspicious symptoms.
