February 8, 2026

A 51-year-old sub-inspector attached to the Natrampalli police near Jolarpet town in Tirupattur was suspended on Saturday for allegedly demanding and taking a bribe of ₹5,000 from a suspect in a road accident case for releasing his two-wheeler.

The suspended SI has been identified as K. Subramani, who has been working at the police station for the past few years. Superintendent of Police (SP), V. Shyamala Devi, issued the suspension order based on the inquiry report.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim, K. Chiranjeevi (24), a resident of Jolarpet town, was riding his two-wheeler near Natrampalli town when he accidentally hit another motorcyclist on the stretch. The motorcyclist was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries at the Taluk Government Hospital in Natrampalli.

Subsequently, the Natrampalli police registered a case against Chiranjeevi and seized the two-wheeler that was involved in the accident. Chiranjeevi managed to get a local court order to recover his two-wheeler.

Police said Chiranjeevi gave a copy of the court order to the suspended sub-inspector to allow him to take his two-wheeler. However, Sub-Inspector Subramani reportedly demanded ₹15,000 for the release of the two-wheeler. Chiranjeevi told the police that he had paid ₹10,000 as a deposit to the sub-inspector, who insisted on paying the remaining amount to get his two-wheeler back.

Chiranjeevi managed to arrange the remaining amount of ₹5,000 and handed it over to the sub-inspector. A video of the incident was filmed and went viral on social media platforms, leading to public outrage.

After the incident, the SP ordered an inquiry and later suspended the sub-inspector. A probe is underway.
