Kashmir Valley watched a weaning against a terrorist attack for the first time in 35 years on Wednesday (April 23, 2025), because organizations from all areas of life supported Bandh calls to protest against killing tourists in Pahalgam, the officials said.
The terrorists intervened on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) at the main tourist location in Pahalgam, South Kashmir, killed at least 26 people, mostly tourists and injured several others.

Security was strengthened through the valley, especially at vital tourist sites.
Most shops, fuel stations and other commercial facilities were closed in Srinagar, the officials said. They said that only shops that deal with basic commodities were opened all over the city.
Public transport was also thin, but private vehicles normally passed, they added. Private schools were also closed through the valley, but government schools were open, officials said.
The effect of weaning was also witnessed that in another district seat of the valley, they said.
Kashmir protesting against a terrorist attack
Peace protests also took place in several places in the valley, with demonstrators condemning the attack. They required stopping the killing of innocent people.

Several political parties, socio-religious organizations, trade bodies and groups of civil society demanded shutdown in Kashmir to protest against attack on Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam in the Anantnag South Kashmir district.
The ruling National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples conference and Apni Party were among the political clothing that supported the weaning to protest the attack.

Mutahida Majlis Ulema (MMU) – amalgam of several religious bodies – which is led by the chairman of the conference Hurriyat Mirwaiz Umar Farooq – appealed to people J&K on Wednesday to mark the shutdown on Wednesday.
“The Islamic Fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir through Mutahid Majlis Ulema (MMU) to support and solidarity with the surviving families of those who were killed, attracted people from Jammu Kashmir to protest tomorrow against this abominable crime,” Mirwaiz said.
Kashmir’s commercial and tourism, including the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Kashmir and Federation of Merchants and Manufacturers of Kashmir, also called on the shutdown.
Closing a school in solidarity with victims
As a sign of respect and solidarity with victims and their families, she announced on Wednesday (April 23, 2025) the closure of all private schools across Jammu and Kashmir of Private Schools (PSAJK).
The University of Kashmir postponed all tests scheduled on Wednesday (April 23, 2025).
The security was reinforced through the Kashmir Valley, the officials said.
They stated that safety staff was deployed in force on vital installations, important tourist sites and the input and output points of the city in other districts.
In several places in the city, checkpoints were established, as well as other districts and security forces carried out control and crushing vehicles and people in several places they said.
The security forces performed a massive search operation in the Baisaran area in Pahalgam to charge the attackers, the officials said.
The day after the attack, other forces were deployed in the tourist resort.
