Shubman Gill was caught off guard during the coin toss against Punjab Kings on Sunday when host Danny Morrison asked the Gujarat Titans captain about marriage. The incident took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium, just after Gill won the toss and decided to run first in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
All was going well between Gill and Morrison until the former New Zealand pacer took an unexpected turn and asked the Indian Test and ODI captain for his wedding. It should be noted that such questions are not normal during the usual chats in a cricket match, especially at the time of toss. “Still, Shubhers, no wedding bells around the corner? Something we need to know about,” Morrison asked.
Gill, taken aback, paused for a moment before answering, “No. No. Nothing.” Morrison said, “Nice to see you,” before turning to Kings of Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer. This is not the first time that Morrison has left Gill speechless with a wedding question in an IPL game.
In IPL 2025, Morrison asked Gill for the same during the coin toss in a match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders. “You look beautiful, no wedding bells in the future. What’s up? Are you getting married?” Morrison asked last year.

In 2025, Gill revealed in an interview with Hollywood Reporter India that the Indian cricketer had been single for three years. “I mean, I’ve been single for over three years and there’s so much speculation and rumors linking me to different people,” Gill said.
“And sometimes it’s so ridiculous that I would never see or meet that person in my life. And I would listen to rumors about why I’m with this person and this person, where else would I be,” Gill added.
“Like, I know I’m so focused on what I need to do in my professional career. There’s no room in my life to be with someone 300 days a year. We’re on the road, traveling somewhere. So there’s almost no time to be with someone or invest, you know, time to be in a relationship,” Gill concluded.
