India ODI and Test captain Shubman Gill did not turn up for Punjab’s match against Sikkim in the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur on Saturday, January 3, after being diagnosed with food poisoning. Gil was scheduled to feature in Punjab’s January 3 and 6 matches against Sikkim and Goa in Jaipur.
However, he complained of discomfort during the day and the medical team subsequently advised him to rest. The management of the team decided not to include him in the playing XI as a precaution.
The extent of Gill’s disease is considered small and is not an immediate cause for concern regarding his availability for upcoming matches. He will continue to be monitored by medical staff and is expected to return after a full recovery.
The India captain is expected to make his next appearance in the ODI series against New Zealand from January 11.
