Former English captain Nasser Hussain said that Indian star SHUBMAN GILL and English Joe Root would rather bat for 3 in a test cricket, emphasizing how the position has lost its charm in a modern cricket. His notes came shortly after the Indian Stalwart Cheteshwar Pujara announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Sunday, August 24th. Hussain believes that with Pujar’s departure he has other old schools Adieu in the game and he appreciated the Indian veteran for his durable presence.
Hussain praised Pujaru for mastering the demanding role 3, especially when he entered to replace the legend like Rahul Dravid. He stressed that very few modern players are willing to take responsibility in this place.
“Real Old School No. 3. And he had to take over from one of the highest large No. 3 in Rahulu Dravid. It’s something that is a little missing in the international cricket-even on the side of England, Joe Root doesn’t want to do it. SHUBMAN GILL doesn’t want to do it for India.
When he spoke of position 3, Hussain compared the Pujar’s approach to some of the biggest names in the cricket. “In our era, your No. 3 was your best player, whether it was Viv Richards, Ricky Ponting or Rahul David. There is no easy position, but Pujara did it as well as anyone,” he added.
Hussain also emphasized how the presence of the Pujary benefited the middle order of India, especially players like Virat Kohli. By spending long hours on the fold, Pujara ensured that the Indian stroke creators did not have to face a new ball.
“Another of the old school doughs is gone. Bat-for-you-the-the-life-flesh bodies dough that played the ball late and created some big shifts, especially in Australia. He was loved by Indian fans for playing like that.
Pujara, considered one of the best Indian players with a red ball, accumulated 7 195 runs in 103 tests on average 43.60. Over the years, the GO-GO-man has become an Indian man in difficult conditions and was last seen in Indian white fibers during the World Championship in 2023 against Australia.
Australia has always been one of the popular Powder tourist destinations, where it played a key role in the Indian historical test series in 2018-19 and 2020-21, frustrating opposition superior with its launching patient. With his retirement, India will lose one of his most reliable test specialists and a real old school No. 3, because team crossings under their new leader SHUBMAN GILL.
