New Delhi: SHUBMAN GILL was officially appointed new Indian test captain on Saturday, with Rishabh Pant his representative for the upcoming series of five matches in England. The selector’s decision was largely expected, after retirement Shalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virt Kohli from the longest format.At the age of 25, Gill shares a warm relationship with both legends. When he enters the leading role, he thinks of the invaluable leadership he has received from them over the years.Interestingly, Gill becomes the Indian fifth highest captain of the Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi (21), Sachin Tendulkar (23), Kapil DEV (24) and Ravi Shastri (25).“When I was a child, I have always been inspired by the greats and legends of the Indian cricket and I was very lucky to have played with so many of them,” Gill said in a video shared by an Indian cricket team after his appointment.“Whether it is a virat Bhai or Rohit Bhai, both were very contrasting in terms of their style, but it was very inspiring to see both working on a common goal. You want to be able to win as a captain and your styles may be different, but both were very different, but similar in their own sense,” he added.“Virat Bhai has always been very aggressive, he always wanted to lead from the front with hunger and passion,” Gill said. “While Rohit Bhai was also aggressive, but you may not see it in his reaction or his expressions. But he was also someone who has always attacked the field. Rohit Bhai was someone who was very calm and tactically always present, and he is very communicative about players – that’s from players.Since his test debut in 2020, Gill performed in 32 matches and scored 1,893 runs on average 35.
