Chief coach Pandjab Kings (PBKS) Ricky Ponting appreciated Captain Shreyas Iyer for his win in the match on Wednesday 2025 Clash with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Ma Chidambarama stadium in Chennai.
Iyer was appointed a match player for his brilliant 72 out of 41 balls, represented five and four six. His knocking helped PBKS is chasing the target 191 with four balls.
Although Matheesha Pathiran eventually released him, Iyer had already taken his team to the brink of victory, with eight balls needed only three runs. Ponting noted that due to the high standards that Iyer is holding, he would probably be disappointed to chase to the very end.
“Actually, I think he has taken his game to a new level. Now he’s a more advanced player. I think he understands games and game situations probably better than ever before. I think it was presented today to play as he did.
“Because I know how proud he is that he is a man at the end to win the games. But look, I like to work with him. He talked to all players. All players like to work with him.
“Trust your instincts”
Last season, Shreyas Iyer played a key role in the help of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). However, the advocates issued him before the mega auction. The Kings pandjab then took a bold step and spent the stunning CRS 26.75 RS to ensure its services – a decision that has been worth it so far. Chief coach Ricky Ponting noted that Iyer became more mature and now shows more confidence in his field decision.

“Now he’s much more confident than he was. And it comes with experience. I think he won IPL last year as a captain. So when you have done it and you have the experience behind you and believe and trust in your own instincts, I think it’s the biggest thing with the captain, especially in the T20 when everything is happening.”
“Four and sixes fly everywhere. His ability to stay calm in the field. Maybe it wouldn’t be so calm tonight when we were a few breaks late when we got over crossed.”
“But I think only his maturity and the experience. And he knows that he also has a good group around him. He knows he has a lot of older players around him. But I think whenever he decides to do so, he adheres and believes and believes and believes it.
With a victory against CSK, PBKS moved to a second in the table with 13 points and a net running rate of +0.199 thanks to victory in six out of 10 matches. Their next match is against Super Giants Lucknow on Sunday 4th May at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Association in Dharamsale.
