Shreyas Iyer is stable and out of danger after his gruesome injury at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Suryakumar Yadav said ahead of the first T20I between India and Australia. The India T20I captain gave an update on Iyer at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday, October 28, who has been in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a Sydney hospital since his nasty fall.
Shreyas Iyer landed awkwardly on his chest while catching Alex Carey at backward point. Iyer ran back and managed to hold the catch but couldn’t get to his feet. The medical staff of the Indian cricket team rushed out and had to carry Shreyas off the ground. It later emerged that the player had to be rushed to hospital due to a laceration to his spleen.
Suryakumar Yadav was asked about the latest update of the player. The captain said Shreyas is stable and responding to the text messages he has been sending him. Surya said Iyer is expected to remain under observation for a few more days but is out of danger at this time.
“The first day I found out he was injured, I called him. I found out he didn’t have his phone with him. So I called the physical therapist and he said he’s stable. You can’t be sure of anything the first day. But I’ve talked to him the last two days and he’s answering the phone. If he answers, it means he’s stable. But he’ll be under the care of other doctors. Days. But he answered, so it’s good,” said Suryakumar Yadav before the start of the T20I.
