Team India vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is out of ICU and is recovering fast after sustaining a rib injury during the Sydney ODI. Shreyas underwent a minor surgery and is recovering well, a source in the know said on Tuesday, October 28.
Shreyas spoke to a few teammates on the phone and started consuming solid food. Sources also said that the Mumbai batsman seems to be in a positive mental state. His recovery is expected to speed up once his family joins him. The BCCI team doctor is with Shreyas and is taking full care of him.
Shreyas suffered the injury during the 3rd ODI while struggling to complete a sensational catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the 34th over of the contest. However, the Indian vice-captain fell awkwardly and injured himself and required medical attention. Shreyas was taken to a medical facility and what appeared to be an impact injury quickly turned serious.
It turned out that he had suffered a laceration to his spleen and internal bleeding was detected. Injury to the spleen can prove life-threatening depending on the amount of internal bleeding and if it subsides.
