Shreyanka Patil determined to bounce back from T20 World Cup failure: I will fly again

Shreyanka Patil has reacted after being ruled out of the Women’s Under-20 World Cup with a leg injury, revealing the disappointment and emotional setback in her campaign. She visited Lord’s last year and pictured herself lifting the trophy from the iconic balcony, but the dream remains unfulfilled.

India named tennis player Prema Rawat, who previously played alongside Shreyanka at Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Women’s Premier League, as her replacement.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Shreyanka said that injuries are never easy and this one hit her the hardest, while expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming support of fans during this difficult phase. She added that she will continue to dream despite the setback, signing off with a reminder that she remains broken but will fly again.

“Well, not every dream comes true. No injury is easy, but this one hit the hardest. But these past few days I’ve been overwhelmed by the love I’ve received. I’ve seen so many reports, so many edits, reels and I really appreciate it all,” Shreyanka wrote in a message on Instagram.

HOW SHREYANKA GOT INJURED

Shreyanka Patil was injured during the sixth over of the Dutch innings while fielding after bowling around the wicket. As she sprinted to prevent the run, she landed awkwardly while collecting the ball and immediately fell in pain, clutching her right ankle.

She was treated by medical staff as she struggled to bear weight. She was eventually wheeled away in a pram, raising concerns about her tournament availability. Shafali Verma completed the over. She walked off the park after which Shafali Verma finished her off.

SHREYANKY ENROLLED WITH INJURIES

Shreyanka faced a long battle with injuries and spent almost a year out of action. Her troubles began with a broken finger during the Asia Cup, though she recovered in time for India’s 2024 Women’s World T20 in the UAE.

She later suffered grade 3 shin splints in both legs, which sidelined her for months and forced her to miss the entire 2025 WPL season for RCB. She returned to international cricket against Australia, winning Player of the Match in the series decider, but has now been sidelined again due to another injury setback.
