Shree Charani is eyeing a historic T20I ranking milestone after a stellar Women’s Asia Cup
Shree Charani tops a historic milestone in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings after a stellar campaign at the Women’s Asia Cup helped the Indian spinner cement her position among the world’s elite.
The young left-arm pacer has now moved within touch of Australia’s Megan Schutt, who holds the record for the highest points scored by a bowler in a women’s T20I. Schutt scored 806 points in November 2018, meaning Charani is just two points away from tying the Australian.
Charani became the first Indian to cross the 800-point mark in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings after her impressive performances in the tournament. Her latest rating of 804 points is also the highest ever by an Indian woman in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings, both among batsmen and bowlers.
England’s Sophie Ecclestone is the next player to break the 800-point mark, reaching 802 points in the rankings. Charani therefore has the opportunity to join an exclusive club while potentially becoming the highest-rated bowler in women’s T20I history.
CHARANI BREAKS MITHALI RAJ’S INDIAN RECORD
Charani’s rise also saw her break a record that had stood for 15 years. Before the spinner’s leap, Mithali Raj held the record for the highest points scored by an Indian woman in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings.
The former Indian captain scored 780 points in the batting rankings in 2011. Charani’s 804 points has now moved the record into a new category and underlines the extent of her rise on the international stage.
The 22-year-old was one of the India’s key performers during the Women’s Asia Cupfinishing the tournament with 12 wickets. She saved one of her most important performances for the final against Sri Lanka as India took the title on 4/20.
Charani’s rise has been particularly rapid given her limited experience at the international level. She first broke through to the top position in the T20I bowling rankings earlier in 2026 and has continued to build on that momentum.
Her performance in the Asian Cup has now moved her just two rating points away from Schutt’s all-time benchmark. With a strong run at the Asian Games, Charani could once again rewrite the record books to become the highest-ranked player in the history of the ICC Women’s T20I rankings.
