The Telangana State Human Rights Commission has registered a complaint alleging serious misconduct by government authorities in connection with the fire in Nampally, Hyderabad, where several people were reportedly trapped and casualties were feared.
The complaint was filed by advocate Rama Rao. According to the complaint, six persons, including two children, were trapped in the flames at a furniture shop in Bacha Furniture, Nampally. The incident is part of a disturbing pattern of fatal fires in the area, the petitioner said, recalling earlier tragedies in which nine people were killed in an illegal basement in November 2023 and 17 were killed in a fire at Gulzar House in May 2025.
Citing a research study conducted on 17 June 2025, the complaint claims that as many as 13 million residents out of 2.6 million households in Hyderabad face an extremely high risk of fire.
The petitioner urges the Human Rights Commission to intervene and direct the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the illegal structures in and around Nampally. The complaint also seeks a review of the licensing process, action against buildings operating without mandatory fire permits and compensation for victims affected by the fire.
