The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Meenangadi police to act on a complaint by two children of alleged mental and physical hardship due to their mother’s illicit affair, official sources said on Friday (January 30).
The children – a boy aged 14 and a girl aged eight – claimed in their complaint that their mother’s partner had beaten them and that their father had abandoned the family as a result of her illicit relationship.
The father was transferred to Karnataka and expressed his unwillingness to continue living with his wife, who is a government employee, sources said.
Judicial Member of the Commission K. Byjunath directed the Meenangadi Station House Officer (SHO) to take immediate action on the complaint.
The commission also directed the children to approach the SHO if they face any physical harm or other threat from the mother or her partner in future.
The police told the Commission that they were legally restricted from acting in domestic disputes. She also said that the woman and her husband were asked to settle their dispute in the family court.
