Two LPG dealers in Shahapur and Shorapur taluks of Yadgir district in Karnataka have been issued notices for violating the rules of the Essential Commodities Act and Framework Guidelines for distributing cylinders to customers.
Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar has issued notices to Vijay Gas Agency in Shahapur and Sun Flame Agency in Shorapur for not distributing LPG cylinders directly to customers’ premises despite instructions issued in newspapers and on video conference on March 24.
According to announcements from the show, a huge crowd had gathered and a long line had formed outside the agencies to refill bottles.
The agencies sold pressure cylinders at a higher price than what was set by the government to customers who did not even book the cylinder and caused inconvenience to genuine customers.
No signboards were placed outside the counters and shops of the retail agencies with available stock in violation of the Deputy Commissioner’s orders in this regard, the DC further said.
In view of all these points, it is clear that there has been a violation of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 and the Gas Rules, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Control of Supply and Distribution) Regulations, 2000 and the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2004 and 2026, the notice said.
Mr. Bhoyar sought written explanations from the agencies after receiving the show cause notice.
Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies Somshekhar Biradar conducted surprise raids on private traders and hoteliers to verify that domestic LPG cylinders are not being used for commercial purposes and confiscated those cylinders being used illegally.
When he visited the agencies, he found some irregularities and violations of rules, the source said.
