Shooting at Baltimore mall leaves 1 dead, 3 injured: Police | Today’s news

February 17, 2026

A late-night shooting followed by a vehicle crash near Mondawmin Mall in Baltimore left one dead and three others injured, police said, prompting a heavy law enforcement response and road closures in the area.

According to Richard Worley, officers were dispatched around 9:30 p.m. to what he described as a “large crime scene” along Liberty Heights Avenue in West Baltimore. Several streets were closed as police secured the area and searched for evidence, CBS News reported.

When officers arrived, they found two vehicles that had crashed into each other in the parking lot of the department store. Two people at the scene suffered gunshot wounds, Worley said. A third person with non-life threatening gunshot wounds was later located a short distance away on Tioga Parkway.

Police also discovered a fourth person dead from gunshot wounds on Liberty Heights Avenue, confirming the fatality associated with the incident.

“As you can see, this is a large crime scene,” Worley said. “It was a shootout. It looked like it happened here in this parking lot where two vehicles collided.”

Investigators found three handguns and a rifle at the scene, police said. Authorities have not yet released details about what led to the shooting or whether any suspects are in custody.

Meanwhile, Baltimore police are asking anyone with information to call 1-866-7Lockup.

News of the shooting in Rhode Island also made headlines earlier. Three people, including a suspect, were fatally shot during a youth hockey game in Rhode Island on Monday, authorities said, as cited by the Associated Press. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said three other victims were hospitalized in critical condition.

“It appears that this was a targeted event, that it may be a family dispute,” she said, according to the AP.

Goncalves did not provide details about the suspect or the ages of those killed, although she said both victims appeared to be adults.

She said investigators are trying to piece together what happened and talk to witnesses to the shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket, a few miles outside of Providence.

Monday’s shooting comes nearly two months after Rhode Island was rocked by a separate gun violence tragedy at Brown University, where a gunman killed two students and wounded nine others. This gunman also fatally shot a Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) professor.

Authorities later found Claudio Neves Valente, 48, the alleged shooter, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a warehouse in New Hampshire.
