A devastating road accident in Rampur claimed the life of the driver after an out-of-control truck overturned on a Bolero SUV and completely crushed it. The incident, which happened on Monday, December 29, was captured on CCTV, with the disturbing footage later shared widely on social media.
The truck overturned at Pahadi Gate
The accident took place on Nainital Road near Pahadi Gate, near the local power plant, along the busy Delhi-Nainital highway. According to police and eyewitnesses, a lorry loaded with wood shavings approached from behind as the Bolero tried to turn on a cut in the highway.

The driver of the Bolera, 54-year-old Firasat, had just dropped the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of the Electricity Department at the Khoud substation and was returning home around 4:30 p.m., according to a News18 report.
As Firasat started to turn, the truck driver tried to avoid a head-on collision by steering towards the center bulkhead. However, the front wheel of the truck mounted the bulkhead, causing the vehicle to lose balance, tilt and flip onto the SUV, as seen in the viral video.
The weight of the truck knocked down the Bolero SUV, killing Firasat on the spot.
CCTV footage reveals the moments before the impact
CCTV visuals show the Bolero taking a turn from the highway while the truck is close behind. When the SUV crosses the road, the truck swerves sharply but loses stability.
Emergency crews later described the scene as the Bolero was “barely recognizable” under the overturned truck. According to a News18 report, the impact trapped Firasat inside the wreckage, with officials saying his head was crushed and his spine shattered due to the immense pressure.
Rescue efforts and traffic disruptions
Emergency services went to the scene and used four cranes, two bulldozers and a JCB machine to clear the debris. It took about 30 minutes to raise the truck and access the crushed vehicle.

The accident seriously disrupted traffic, vehicles backed up for almost two kilometers. Traffic on the highway remained at a standstill for nearly three hours, forcing authorities to divert vehicles through alternate routes.
Online outrage over road safety
The CCTV footage sparked strong reactions online, with users debating the responsibility and enforcement of road safety.
One user commented: “Carelessness on the part of the Bolero driver for not checking his mirrors.”
Another said: “Dismal visuals – but that’s exactly why India needs stricter DL testing, proper lane discipline and real enforcement, not just outrage after accidents. Until we fix training + policing, this chaos is happening again.”

“Blind spots, wide turns, moving loads – being around trucks means trouble,” another user wrote.
“Firstly, the truck is overloaded and its speed is also too high for the city limits. Second, heavy vehicles should be banned from entering the city during the day, they should only be allowed to enter the city at night and that too with a time limit,” reads another comment.
Police action is underway
Superintendent of Police Vidyasagar Mishra visited the site and supervised the clearance operations. Police confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident and a search is underway.
Firasat’s body was sent for an autopsy and his family was informed. The truck has been impounded and moved to the police station premises, while legal formalities are currently underway.
