The Shivamogga district administration on Saturday issued a no-vehicular notification at Hulikal Ghat (State Highway 52) following the recent incident in which a pile of earth collapsed, resulting in the death of three people.
Abhishek V., Additional DC of Shivamogga, said in an announcement that a project to construct a retaining wall has been initiated to prevent landslides at Hulikal Ghat as there were cases of landslides during the previous rainy season. However, another landslide occurred on April 9. Currently, the section is not suitable for vehicles. “According to the recommendation of the Chief Engineer (Communications and Buildings) of the Central Zone, the movement of all types of vehicles is prohibited on the road until the completion of the ongoing works,” the announcement reads.
