More than 20 bags containing plastic pellets and other unidentified materials were found in the 12-km section of coastal areas of Dhanushkodi, Arichalmununai and near Kothandaramaswama in Ramesware on Monday (June 9, 2025).
Were similar to scissors found in the coastal areas of Kanniyakumari about a week ago,
Police sources believe that the bags had to be washed ashore from the Liberian container ship MSC Elsa 3, which sank from the coast of Kochi on 25 May.
Containers and cargo from the ship were originally washed to the shore along the Keral coast, but strong winds and ocean currents soon transferred them to Kanniyakumari and other areas.
The police said they found 23 such bags filled with plastic pellets in the coastal section, but they believe that many others could reach the shore in the coming days.
Since few bags were damaged, the plastic pellets were scattered around the area.
The revenue management warned against handling bags and pellets, warned fishermen and tourists because of uncertainty about the chemical properties of materials.
