A lawsuit has been filed against Bastion, a high-end restaurant co-founded by a Bollywood actress Shilpa Shettyfor allegedly operating outside the legally permitted closing time, as reported by the news agency PTI.
The business, located on St Marks Road in Bengaluru, was allegedly found violating regulations by hosting late-night parties beyond the stipulated time limit during an inspection on December 11.
Officials cited in PTI report confirmed that the action was taken after the restaurant was allegedly found to be in breach of local operating regulations regarding closing hours.
“We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Karnataka Police Act at the Cubbon Park police station against the manager and staff of the establishment for violating the rules,” said a senior police officer.
Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra move Bombay HC to Quash ₹60 Crore Cheating Case
In November, Shilpa Shetty and her businessman husband Raj Kundra approached the Bombay High Court, seeking to quash a ₹60 crore cheating case filed against them by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW).
The couple’s petition not only seeks quashing of the First Information Report (FIR), but also urges the court to restrain the police from filing a charge sheet and taking any coercive action against them pending a court hearing.
The case was filed on the basis of a complaint by Deepak Kothari, who alleged that between 2015 and 2023, Shetty and Kundra induced him to invest ₹60 crore in their company Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. Kothari alleges that the funds invested were ultimately used for the couple’s personal benefit.
In their pleas filed in the High Court, Shetty and Kundra vehemently denied the allegations, alleging that the FIR was based on a “false and distorted set of facts” and was “maliciously lodged with an ulterior and malafide intention to extort money”.
The couple argued that the dispute was essentially a civil and contractual matter arising out of a failed business venture and an investment loss. They attributed the fall of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd to “unforeseen economic circumstances”, specifically referring to the November 2016 demonetisation event which severely affected their cash-based business model.
Shilpa Shetty’s individual plea stated that she was not involved in the day-to-day operations of the company and was associated with the firm for a limited period of time. Both parties contend that the losses incurred were merely trading losses and not the result of any fraudulent design or criminal conspiracy.
The High Court directed the couple to provide a copy of their petitions to the complainant Deepak Kothari.
