Part of the faculty, students and graduates of the Ministry of atmospheric Sciences at the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) opposed the transfer department from the Lakeside (Marine) in the city to the Campus of the University of Thrikkar.
They said that the strength of the program lies in its natural and necessary integration with other disciplines of land science, such as physical oceanography and geology, which were located on the seabed. University authorities revealed that the decision was taken because the laboratory and radar facilities needed for the course were placed in the main campus.
Former students urged the authorities not to move the department, and to say that meteorology was not an independent subject. His strength consisted of his integration with the field of allied country. Atmospheric and ocean sciences were inherently interconnected, especially in understanding large systems such as climate change, monsoon and weather forecast. They said that the department of these disciplines across campuses would shatter the curriculum and weakened research cooperation.
The authorities pointed out that the decision to move the department from the Lakeside campus to the main campus was adopted on the recommendation of the Syndicate subcommittee. They said that the main campus was located the main research facility such as the Advanced Center for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR). It has been proposed that the displacement be facilitated to be facilitated from the implementation of various functions of the department of two campuses. Integration would solve the problem, they added.
Those who oppose the relocation pointed out that the radar center served primarily as a data collection center and that atmospheric data analysis could be carried out remotely from anywhere in the world.
