SHE teams received 102 harassment complaints and arrested 127 people in June

Hyderabad’s SHE teams received 102 complaints of harassment of women during June and arrested 127 people for various offences, securing conviction in 14 cases, according to data released by the Women Safety Wing on Friday.

Police said the arrested persons were involved in harassing and misbehaving against women in public places. Conviction was secured through investigation and timely legal action.

SHE teams also detected several cases of teasing and harassment as part of surveillance at vulnerable locations across the city. During special operations, six men were found to have independently misbehaved with women by touching them inappropriately in public places, causing distress and inconvenience to the victims. Four transgender persons allegedly involved in illegal activities were also found.

Under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act and the Hyderabad City Police Act, petty cases were registered against the accused. The court convicted the six men and sentenced them to three days simple imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,000 each. Two transgender persons were also convicted in petty cases and fined ₹1,050 each.

The Women Safety Wing said strict legal action will continue against those involved in harassment, stalking, sexual harassment, cyber abuse and social media abuse.
