The first day of ‘Shatabdi Mahotsav’, a three-day cultural festival organized as part of the centenary celebrations of Andhra University, began in a lively spirit on the grounds of AU Engineering College on Monday, bringing together students from the university and its affiliated colleges.
Describing the occasion as a moment of immense pride, GP Vice Chancellor Raja Shekar noted that the 100-year milestone was marked by a renewed commitment to serve society. He said the series of events planned as part of the celebrations lent a festive atmosphere to the city, with the cultural festival reflecting the vibrancy of the youth and the institution’s long-standing commitment to arts and culture.
Actor Rajeev Kanakala, who attended as a guest, said he felt honored to be a part of the celebrations and recalled his father Devadas Kanakala’s association with the university, where he studied theater and fine arts. “From the moment I arrived, it was hard to contain my emotions,” he said, describing his participation as a rare honor. He also praised the performances for their grace and lightness.
The opening events were attended by students from several affiliated institutions, including Dr. LB College, Sankethika, Gayathri Vidya Parishad, AU Science College, Women’s Engineering College and AU School of International Business. Performances of classical and western dance, yoga demonstrations by students of the yoga department and folk presentations were awarded.
