A slip on the Parliament steps, a helping hand from SP MP Akhilesh Yadav and a viral video later, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s trip on Wednesday was confirmed to have resulted in a fractured foot.
However, Tharoor is in “good spirits” and will continue with parliamentary work and other engagements as possible, his team said in a post on X.
“The injury has been confirmed…”
On Thursday, Tharoor’s team confirmed that the Congress MP underwent an X-ray which confirmed that he had broken his foot.
“Dr. Shashi Tharoor’s injury was confirmed as a fracture following an X-ray this morning. He is in good spirits and will continue with parliamentary work and other engagements as possible (perhaps in a wheelchair). Thank you for all the best wishes!” read a post from Tharoor’s office.
The photo attached to the post adds another layer to the quirky caption. It shows a smiling Tharoor with sunglasses, a thumbs up and a ‘Get well soon’ card – even as he stands on a broken leg.
The fracture did not prevent Tharoor from attending the ongoing session of Parliament. He entered the House of Commons in a wheelchair and was later seen leaving Parliament in the same manner, according to several reports.
How did Tharoor stumble on the stairs?
A video of Shashi Tharoor, which has since gone viral on social media, showed the Thiruvananthapuram MP talking on his mobile phone as he tried to descend the stairs. We don’t know if he missed a step or two, but the video showed him stumbling and falling. Akhilesh Yadav, who was standing nearby with other SP leaders, quickly restrained him.
Yadav also reportedly asked his team to help Shashi Tharoor carry his bag.
On Wednesday, Tharoor visited the opposition leader’s office to meet him after a huge uproar over his remarks targeting the Modi government saw repeated adjournments in the Lok Sabha.
This was the first time that Shashi Tharoor attended a meeting with Rahul Gandhi since their meeting with Mallikarjun Kharg last week.
Not only that, in front of the House, Shashi Tharoor strongly defended Rahul Gandhi over his remarks, saying that the party leader is not allowed to speak.
