Congress MP Shashi Tharoor again left the Internet amused and biased- this time with a historical lesson on one of the most popular meals in South India, Sambhar.
When he spoke at the South Side Story Festival festival, Tharroor was asked if he enjoyed the Delhi version of the bowl. His answer quickly turned into a fairy -tale culinary history with a little humor.
“Look, you have to understand that Sambhar was invented in the south for the north,” Tharoor began. “When the maraths conquered Tanjavura in Tamil Nadu, they parked Sambhaji as Maharaja there and missed his Daal. We had no of his Daal’s things in South India, so the chefs tried to get closer to him.
Tharoor added with his trademark, “So anything you do with sambhar can not be worse than what we did to Daal.”
The clips of this moment are now spreading online, while social media users respond with everything from heavy laughter to debates about the authenticity of its theory. Some called it “classic Tharoor’s narration” while others called him for calling Maratha from Northern India.
The user wrote: “Like any South Indian and Maharashtra is northern India.”
Another user wrote: “The maraths were from the west not north, but loved his analogy.”
The third user wrote on Instagram: “Always funny. Love the way he says every time!”
“Sir must know that Maharashtra is in the west and not north,” he wrote fourth.
