Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in turn praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tharoor praised PM Modi after attending an event in Delhi where the PM spoke. “Overall, the Prime Minister’s speech served as both an economic outlook and a cultural call to action, urging the nation to be restless about progress. I’m glad I was in the audience despite a bad cold and cough!” Tharoor posted X on Tuesday.
In his detailed post, Tharoor highlighted how Prime Minister Modi emphasized that India is now an “emerging model” for the world and focused on the country’s economic resilience.
PM Modi made the remarks during the sixth Ramnath Goenka Lecture, hosted by The Indian Express, on Monday, November 17.
Shashi Tharoor’s praise for PM Modi
Shashi Tharoor said a key part of PM Modi’s speech was devoted to “overturning Macaulay’s 200-year-old legacy of ‘slave mentality’ (ie, colonial thinking)”. The Prime Minister, he said, appealed for a 10-year national mission to restore pride in India’s heritage, languages and knowledge systems.
“PM Modi said he was accused of being in ‘election mode’ all the time… but he was actually in ’emotional mode’ to fix people’s problems,” the Thiruvananthapuram MP said in his post.
PM Modi’s speech came days after the results of the Bihar assembly elections, where the NDA registered a landslide victory – securing 202 of the 243 assembly constituencies. However, Shashi Tharoor’s Congress party witnessed a massive slump, winning only six of the 61 seats it fielded candidates for.
When Tharoor led the Op Sindoor delegation
The Thiruvananthapuram MP has often found himself at loggerheads with his own party — the Congress — especially after he praised PM Modi.
The internal rift was prominent a few months ago after the government picked Shashi Tharoor to head the Operation Sindoor delegation abroad without the big old party recommending his name.
On his return to India, Tharoor once again praised Prime Minister Modi, describing the Prime Minister’s energy and dynamism as an asset to India, saying he deserved more support.
