Shashank Singh denies assault allegations: Cook took private videos

Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh has denied allegations of assault and illegal imprisonment by the home cook. Instead, the cricketer claimed that the employee had entered the private areas of the family home and recorded videos without permission and was therefore fired from his job.

Shashank and his father Shailesh Singh – a former IPS officer were earlier named in an FIR registered at Ratibad police station in Bhopal after their former cook Vipendra Singh Tomar accused them of physical assault, verbal abuse and imprisonment against his will.

Responding to the allegations, Shashank denied the claims and disputed the timeline given in the complaint.

“Nothing of the sort happened. A person who arrives on the evening of the 25th and leaves on the morning of the 28th—how can you call that holding someone hostage?” Shashank told PTI in an interview on Tuesday, June 30.

The cricketer also claimed that the chef had misrepresented his experience and later admitted that he had failed to prepare a number of the dishes he had originally claimed.

“The man came to us and said, ‘I can cook. I can prepare all kinds of food.’ But then he himself admitted that he can’t really cook properly. So how can you trust such a person?” he said.

SHASHANK SINGH BACK TO THE CLAIM

Shashank further leveled allegations against the complainant, alleging that the employee recorded the videos in the private parts of the family residence.

“He came to the house and started recording videos from the bedrooms. He even entered the bedroom where expensive and luxury items were kept, recorded the videos there and sent them to other people,” Shashank alleged.

The Punjab Kings batter said his interaction with the chef was minimal and largely limited to discussing his cooking background. According to Shashank, the cook was recommended through an acquaintance of his father’s and demanded payment in advance shortly after arrival.

“He came through one of my father’s friends who advised him that he knows how to cook all these dishes,” said Shashank.

“Hence, he was brought to the house, but once he arrived, he demanded a deposit of Rs 20,000.

Shashank claimed that his family asked the cook to work for a few days before discussing compensation and deciding whether to continue with the arrangement. An FIR against Shashank, his father and the family driver was registered following Tomar’s allegation that he was assaulted after he expressed his desire to quit work. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
