Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nationalist Congress Party (SP) president Sharad Pawar, who was admitted to a private hospital in Pune on Monday after being diagnosed with a chest infection, and inquired about his health and well-being, according to multiple reports.
The 85-year-old Rajya Sabha member was rushed to the Ruby Hall Clinic on Monday afternoon from his residence in Baramati in Pune district after he complained of breathing problems and persistent cough. His daughter Supriya Sule said he will require five days of antibiotic treatment.
How is Sharad Pawar now?
Dr Simon Grant, physician and administrator, Ruby Hall Clinic, confirmed that Pawar is recovering well, noting that his vital signs are normal and his overall clinical condition is steadily improving.

“As a precautionary measure, he remains under observation. His treatment is being carried out strictly according to established medical protocols at the Ruby Hall Clinic and all investigations are being closely monitored,” the statement said.

The hospital said further decisions on the course of treatment would be made based on his clinical progress and asked party workers and supporters not to gather on the premises so that regular patient care is not affected, ANI reported.
Meanwhile, NCP-SP leader Rohit Pawar shared an update on Sharad Pawar’s condition on Monday and said the veteran politician is doing well.
“Sharad Pawar’s health is very good now. He was tested there. He was not kept in ICU. He was kept in a private room there. He does not need any support there at the moment. Once the news comes, it will be decided whether he will be kept in Pune or Mumbai,” Rohit Pawar told reporters.
He added that a decision on whether Pawar would stay in Pune or be shifted to Mumbai would be taken after receiving medical reports, saying, “Pawar has come here in a private vehicle and everything is normal.”
The NCP suffered a major loss last month after the death of its chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawa, nephew of Sharad Pawar, in a plane crash. After his death, Ajit Pawar’s wife Sunetra Pawar was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.
Earlier this month, Sharad Pawar said he was pleased with Sunetra Pawar’s appointment as Deputy Chief Minister. He also spoke about ongoing discussions about a possible merger of the two factions that emerged after the party split, saying Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was not authorized to comment on the talks as he was not fully informed about them.
“I am happy that Sunetra Pawar has been sworn in as Deputy CM… There were merger discussions between Ajit Pawar and Jayant Patil. CM Fadnavis was not part of the talks. What right did he have to talk about it? At present our entire focus is to take care of everyone and move forward with those who are grieving. No political decisions are being made at this time…
