Ivri Bareilly experts perform post mortem. The probe will also include the Health Advisory Committee and the Ministry of the Environment of the Union.
Shankar was gifted to India Zimbabwe and was a valued member of the Zoo in Delhi for 27 years.
The elephant arrived in the zoo in November 1998 and the staff was weighed for its subtle nature and majestic presence.
The bull of the elephant lived alone since 2005 after the death of an elephant named Bambai. Over the years, it has experienced recurrent health problems related to Musth – a condition where the levels of Testosterone bulls went on aggressive and unpredictable behavior.
During the Musth episodes, the elephant was often attached to handle its aggression. In 2023, after breaking part of his part of the wall, the cover was soothed and restrained, an incident that was injured by Zooker. The following year, Shankar went back to Musth and was strapped from July to September for a long time, which allegedly caused chain burning injury.
