The controversial Pakistan cricket Shahid Afridi Afridi on Sunday, July 20, triggered a fire against the Indian team, which pulled out of their match against Pakistan at the World Championship (WCL 2025). Multiple players from the Indian team decided from the exhibition game against Pakistan because of the presence of Shahid Afridi, who made several problematic statements against India during the tension between the two countries.
On Sunday, Sunday, the day of the match, the Shahid Afidi claimed that even Indian crickets were disappointed that they were not playing the game, and blaming the pulling on Shikhar Dhawan, who publicly announced that he would not play an exhibition match if Afrids were part of the puck.
Afridi called Dhawan and “rotten eggs” and accused him of “spoiling” the rest of the Indian crickets.
“… Sport closer to the country. If politics comes between everything you move forward? Without communication, things cannot be solved. The idea for these events is also to meet one on one. But you know, there is always one rotten egg that spoils everything,” Shahid Afridi said on Sunday, July 20.
Afridi added fuel to the fire by indicating that Dhawan was embarrassed for his nation. He continued and added that the Indian team was supposed to stay at home if they did not want to play cricket at the WCL 2025.
“They trained the day before the match. I think they pulled out for only one guys. Even the Indian team is very disappointed. They were here to play. I tell you, you should be a good ambassador to Earth, not embarrassment,” Afridi said.
Double standards of Shahid Afridi
The words of sports diplomacy come in sharp contrast to Shahid Afridi comments in April, where he claimed that the Indian government had attacked its own citizens in Pahalgam.
“The terrorists continued killing people in Pahalgam for an hour and not even a single Indian soldier out of 8 Lakhs appeared. But when they did it, they blamed Pakistan,” Afrids told local reporters in Pakistan.
“India performs terrorism itself, kills its own people, and then blames Pakistan,” he said.
On Sunday, Afridi appeared in another avatar and said he was there as a cricket ambassador and was extremely disappointed that the match was not done in Edgbaston.
“We were very excited to play the second match (vs India). I thought we were on the ground. We expected 17,000-18,000 fans to enjoy the match. But yeah, it is quite disappointing that we didn’t play,” he said on Sunday.
Afrids further claimed that if he knew that the Indian team had problems with his presence, he would have been removed from the Sunday game.
“If they didn’t play for me, I would stay at home. The cricket should continue. Who is Shahid Afridi before cricket? No one. If they didn’t want to play, why did they come here?
The Indian vs Pakistani match on the WCL 2025 was to be the first cricket event between India and Pakistan. However, the match was dismissed after the massive resistance of Indian citizens on social media, who questioned former crickets to participate in the event together with Pakistani crickets in the middle of cross -border tension with the neighboring state.
