Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat May Add 2 More Floors — SC Rejects CRZ Permission Request | Today’s news
Shah Rukh Khan’s Mumbai residence, Mannat, may now be expanded by two more floors after the Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal challenging the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance.
According to LiveLaw, the apex court declined to interfere with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order dated September 16, 2025 and dismissed the challenge.
Mumbai-based activist Santosh Daundkar alleged that the permissions granted for the proposed construction had been violated.
Daundkar’s lawyer argued that the case should not be viewed differently just because it involved a prominent film star. He also noted that the petitioner was a respected activist who had also exposed the Adarsh housing scam.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohan dismissed the plea saying that it was not at all influenced by the stardom of the respondent.
“We are not affected by all this,” Judge Bagchi said.
The court noted that the authorities found substantial compliance with applicable law. “They live there. If they want to have (additional floors) in the residential building… it is their choice,” the CJI observed. “The laws are widely followed. Why should a neighbor or anyone else (interfere)?”
“I have very serious doubts about the good faith of the petitioner,” noted the president of the court.
The counsel also argued that the NGT had not challenged the petitioner in good faith and requested that the matter be remanded at least to the NGT for consideration of merits. He argued that the matter raised fundamental issues and did not deserve to be dismissed.
However, the court was not convinced and rejected the appeal.
The NGT dismissed Daundkar’s plea, which alleged that the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority had erred in granting CRZ permission to renovate the actor’s sea-view Bandra home.
The tribunal held that no procedural irregularity or legal defect was established in the approval granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Authority.
