Social Welfare Minister Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy has announced that seven lakh fish will soon be released in reservoirs, irrigation tanks and other water bodies in Prakasam district. On the occasion of World Fisheries Day on Friday, the minister released fish in Thoorpunaidupalem and Mallavarappadu reservoirs in Tanguturu mandal where he unveiled the initiative. “Encouraging rainfall this year prompted the decision to release seven lakh fish, which will benefit not only individual fishermen but also village panchayats and fishing societies,” he said. Reiterating the State Government’s commitment to support the fishing community, Mr. Swamy recalled the supply of fishing nets and motor boats at subsidized rates, insurance cover during the fishing season and ₹20,000 compensation provided during fishing holidays. Revenue Department Officer (Ongole) Lakshmi Prasanna, Joint Director (Fisheries) Srinivasa Rao, mandal officials and public representatives participated in the programme.
