Lakes of Shivamogg District is ready to offer adventure tourists because tourism and smaller irrigation wards begin water sports in seven lakes across different talos. The lakes were identified on the basis of their vicinity of popular tourist destinations
Balligavi Basavannan Kere, dopahalli doddakere, Talagunda Leavekere, all from Shikaripur Taluk; Keladi Kere of Sagara Taluk; Kubaturu Kere in Sorab Taluk; Humcha Mutthin Keres in Hosanagar Taluk and Gopistty Koppa Doddakere
“These places regularly see tourists. For example, Sagar Taluk usually has a good step of tourists because of his proximity. Similarly, many tourists come to the Humcha Jain temple in Hosanagar. That’s why we chose them for development,” said the head official.
The official also stated that instead of a “one -time approach” that fits one God, various water sports in different lakes will be offered based on water, ecology and other factors that do not disturb ecosystems near these watercourses.
“If the lake has many fish and other water life, then only cruises will be selected. Sometimes water levels will be reduced in the summer and then service providers will have to plan a sport that can be performed at such a water level,” they added.
Rafting, kayak, canoeing, windsurfing and such non -motorized activities will be accepted on lakes.
Environmentalists argue that while non -motorized activities may not have a direct impact on the lake ecosystem, fish can be disturbed. However, it is an activity that comes with tourism that concerns them.
“The main thing is pollution caused by one use with one use in places declared as tourist destinations. Tourism in such places is dangerous for nature. As soon as this lake becomes tourist destinations, more people will come and more private vehicles. Tourism is not necessary, ”Akhilesh Chipli, an environmentalist from the region.
The tourism department has recently requested a tender for providing water sports in these seven lakes and the offers were received. Details will be tuned and the offer will be awarded in the next few days.
Water sports in tanks and coasts
Together with a smaller irrigation department, tourism departments also develop centers for water sports in 18 reservoirs, including Kanva reservoir, Vilas Sagar, Kabini and Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS). The offer has already been invited to develop KRS for water sports.
Furthermore, 10 beaches, including Tannirbavi Beach in Dakshina Kannada District and Maravanthe Beach in the UDUP district, will also be developed as water sports nodes according to this year’s state budget.
