Karnataka Raita Sena President Viresh Sobaradmath Swami has urged the state government to set up an expert committee to look into the issues related to sugarcane growers as well as sugar mills and make recommendations to address them.
Addressing presspersons in Hubballi on Monday, Viresh Sobaradmath Swami said that problems of sugarcane growers are recurring regularly while sugar mill owners are claiming the losses they have suffered.
“While on one hand farmers are looking for a better price for sugarcane yield and the state government is coming up with a mutually acceptable price, on the other hand sugar mill owners are coming up with various excuses to escape the imposition of the price set by the government. In fact, different sugar mills have come up with different prices and different sets of rules and regulations, which is highly condemnable,” he said.
Viresh Sobaradmath Swami said that in such a case, to find a permanent solution to the recurring problems, the government should set up an expert committee comprising representatives of all stakeholders, farm experts and senior officials to study the problems and recommend solutions.
He said that since Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue, they expect him to make a positive statement in this regard before the start of the winter session in Belagavi, otherwise the Raita Sena will be forced to join the sugarcane farmers’ agitation outside the Suvarna Soudha building in Belagavi.
