The Senate of the University of Calicut urged the vice -chairman (VC) to cancel an order that slapped a fine on the teachers at affiliated universities for delay in registering for exams and also for administrative errors during the process.
Abida Farooqui, a member of the Senate, said in a letter that according to the order issued in 2018, teachers would have to pay up to 10,000 ₹ if there was any delay in registering students at their department for exams. Through another order in 2022, the university also brought errors during the registration process as part of the 2018 order. Mrs. Farooqui claimed that many teachers raised their concerns and called it a demoralization step. She said it was undesirable to impose a teacher punishment for administrative errors. Mrs Farooqui also pointed out that many gross mistakes by Pareeksha Bhavan employees, such as the scripts of missing answers, were unpunished.
