A major security scare was unleashed at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the IPL 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans after nearly 240 CCTV camera feeds were reportedly deactivated. The breach raised immediate concerns about viewing at one of the league’s busiest venues.
Despite the extent of the disruption, the authorities acted quickly to put in place alternative measures and ensure the match went ahead without any untoward incident. Officials confirmed that real-time monitoring was restored using backup measures soon after the problem was discovered.
The development comes at a time when RCB are playing an away match against Delhi Capitalsalthough their home ground is dealing with a new controversy. The incident has once again brought stadium security and operational protocols under scrutiny during IPL 2026.
WHAT IS CHINNASWAMY’S CCTV SCARE ALL ABOUT?
According to police, two employees of subcontractor IVS Digital Solutions, identified as Manjunath E and Abdul Kalam, gained unauthorized access to the stadium’s CCTV server room. They allegedly used a disabled access card and entered without a valid ID, bypassing security protocols.
Once inside, the duo allegedly cut NVR and fiber optic connections, disrupting surveillance in key areas of the stadium. These included the entrance gates, halls, company booth D and several cameras located around the stadium area.
The breach significantly affected real-time tracking during the match, leaving critical areas unattended. However, officials said that once the problem was discovered, alternative measures were immediately put in place to ensure that safety was not compromised during the game.
A case has been registered at Cubbon Park Police Station and an investigation is currently underway to establish the extent of the breach and possible motives.
NOT THE FIRST PROBLEM IN CHINNASWAMY
The incident adds to a growing list of concerns about operations at the Chinnaswamy Stadium during IPL 2026. Just days earlier, Bengaluru police had cracked down on black ticket marketing at the venue.
A canteen worker, identified as Chandrashekhar, was arrested after authorities confiscated approximately 100 tickets for the match which were allegedly sold at exorbitant prices during RCB’s match against Lucknow Super Giants.
Related issues have put a spotlight on governance and security protocols at one of the IPL’s most prominent venues. While the latest breach did not disrupt the match itself, it raised questions about how such outages could have occurred on match day.
