(Bloomberg)-a school age in Texas, which was recently diagnosed with measles, died in the middle of a growing focus in the state.
According to an e -mail statement of the UMC Health System in Lubbock in Texas, a child was not vaccinated, hospitalized and was treated with complications from measles. The child had no known basic health status, the statement said.
“This unfortunate event underlines the importance of vaccination,” said Aaron Davis hospital spokesman. “The measles are a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications, especially for those who are non -urinated.” Local healthcare officials were still working on confirming some details of the case on Sunday. Davis refused to comment when the child died exactly.
It is the second death associated with measles in the state this year, after the US went for ten years without reported deaths on a highly contagious virus. So far, there have been 607 cases of measles in 21 countries, according to the latest data from the US Centers for Control and Prevention of Diseases.
Ninety -seven percent of the cases included non -uncertain patients or patients whose vaccination was not known. The measles vaccine, known as the MMR vaccine, is very effective according to CDC, with one dose of 93% effective in preventing infection.
Texas was by far the hardest state. The state health department reported 481 cases.
The Ministry of Health and Human Services did not respond to requests for comment. Minister HHS Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He openly questioned the safety of vaccines and public health experts stated that in the current outbreak of measles it did not prove the importance of the MMR vaccine.
