Trouble within the District Congress Committee (DCC) over seat-sharing in the East Eleri panchayat escalated on Tuesday after DCC vice-president James Panthammakkal resigned from his post. He announced his decision at a press conference at the Kasaragod Press Club.
Panthammakkal accused DCC president PK Faisal of “buying 18 seats” in Eleri East and claimed his actions would “destroy the party”.
He further alleged that the scuffle that broke out in the DCC office during seat-sharing discussions was orchestrated. Mr James said that despite writing to All India Congress Committee General Secretary Deepa Dasmunshi on the matter, no action had been taken.
Meanwhile, Mr. Faisal dismissed the allegations as baseless. He said panthammakkal had become a “headache” for the party. He added that the matter will be brought to the attention of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee.
