The Congress is facing internal unrest in Wadakkanchery municipality after the party allotted a council seat to the District Congress Committee (DCC) secretary, prompting several local leaders, including a sitting councillor, to resign from the party.
DC Secretary NR Sathesh has been announced as the official Congress candidate in puthuruthy Division 2. Acting counting officer bijeesh bhaskalan has expressed strong displeasure with the decision and submitted his resignation to dcc president.
Former mandalam president PM Prafulla Chandran and his son Gireesh Chand, mandalam president, also resigned from the party with the same complaint. Mr. Chand has announced that he will contest as an independent candidate.
The main complaint raised by the dissidents is that the DCC secretary is not a permanent resident of Puthuruthy division. However, Congress leaders contested the claim, saying Mr. Satheesh had long-standing roots and political involvement in the area.
Mr. Satheesh has been active in local politics for decades, his family home is located in Puthuruthy. He had previously served twice as a member of the Mundathikode panchayat from the same region.
“I am contesting as a Congress candidate based on the directive of the party and in the larger public interest,” Mr. Satheesh said in response to the allegations.
