Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has admitted that his team has effectively been knocked out of the 2026 Indian Premier League season after a crushing loss against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 8. A visibly upset Axar admitted after the match that Delhi will now start testing their bench strength and start planning for next season.
Defeat against KKR marked Delhi’s fifth loss in their last six matches, leaving them with just 8 points from 11 matches. Even if they win all their remaining games, DC can only finish with 14 points – which is unlikely to be enough to secure a playoff spot this season.

Reflecting on the team’s disappointing campaign, Axar said Delhi needed to rethink its mistakes and start looking ahead.
“We will reflect on our mistakes. We will start planning for next year. We can look at our bench and see who will start for us,” Axar said after the match.
Delhi Capitals started the season well but suffered a dramatic collapse in the midst of the Indian Premier League. The loss to Kolkata has now left Delhi needing a mathematical miracle to stay alive in the tournament.
