The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) third term in Palakkad was made possible despite the party lacking a majority, thanks to the “hypocritical attitudes of both the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF).
SDPI leader Mohammed Ilyas said here on Saturday that BJP has taken power in Palakkad municipality despite holding only 25 out of 53 seats in the council due to apparent political duplicity of both LDF and UDF.
He said the LDF and UDF could have kept the BJP out of power by supporting an independent candidate for the post of village chairman. “But unfortunately, both the fronts have taken a stand which has indirectly helped the BJP,” he said.
Mr. Ilyas accused the LDF and UDF of effectively allowing fascist forces to remain in power, despite their vocal criticism of fascism. “BJP’s continued rule in Palakkad is not a coincidence; it reflects the political opportunism of both the UDF and the LDF,” he said.
