SCTIMST cardiology department to celebrate golden jubilee

The Cardiology Department of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) is celebrating its golden jubilee on Saturday.

The event will bring together former institute directors, senior faculty members, alumni and leaders from the scientific community to reflect on the five-decade long journey of the department and its role in shaping modern cardiology in India.

Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST, will begin the celebrations. Among the guests who joined the celebration are Kris Gopalakrishnan, president of SCTIMST; Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India; and Sunil Kumar, Head, Autonomous Institution, DST.

S. Harikrishnan, Professor and Head of Cardiology, said the Golden Jubilee is not just a celebration of 50 years, but a celebration of a shared legacy of clinical excellence, research, innovation and patient-centred care. Over the past 50 years, the SCTIMST Department of Cardiology has played a pivotal role in the development of cardiology in India, he added.

As part of the celebrations, the Golden Jubilee Alumni Awards and Thesis Awards will be presented, recognizing the outstanding contribution of alumni and young scholars. A special segment called “Down the Memory Lane” will trace the evolution of the department and highlight key milestones over the past five decades.
