
Scrutiny of nomination papers submitted for the upcoming local body elections in Pathanamthitta district was completed on Saturday.
District panchayat nomination verification was conducted under the direction of District Electoral Officer and District Collector S. Prem Krishnan, while those to municipal councils, block panchayats and grama panchayats were verified by their returning officers.
124 nomination papers were received for the district panchayat in 17 divisions. Of these, 14 were rejected and 110 were declared valid. After detailed verification, 58 candidates were found eligible to contest the elections. Among the 66 candidates who submitted nomination papers, eight were rejected.
In the four municipal councils, 485 candidates qualified to contest the elections. The figures for each country are: Adoor 94, Pathanamtittta 118, Thirruvalla 147 and Pandalam 126. One nomination Each was rejected in patanamtta and patanamtta and patanamtta.
In the eight block panchayats of the district, 397 candidates were declared eligible to contest. The breakdown of qualified candidates is: Mallappally 47, Pulikeezhu 43, Koipuram 50, Elanthoor 50, Ranni 50, Konni 49, Pandalam 55 and Parakode 53. A total of seven nominations were rejected, including three in Mallappally, two in Konni and one each in Parakode, Koipuram and Parakode.
For grama panchayats, 5,936 nomination papers were found valid while 59 were rejected, leaving 3,286 candidates eligible to contest the local body elections.
In Kottayam, meanwhile, the authorities received 6,411 nomination papers. Overall, the district recorded 11,101 sets of nomination papers across all local bodies.
In the district panchayat, 106 candidates have filed their nomination, while 569 candidates have filed their papers for the block panchayats.
4,920 candidates filed nominations in grama panchayats and 816 candidates filed their papers in six municipal councils.
