The collector of the Nilgiris district, Lakshmi Bhavesa Tanneer, said that the teams of the medical department were projecting Nilgiris visitors at the border checks adjacent to Keral on any symptoms of the NIPAH virus.
Mrs. Tanneer told reporters on Monday supervision of border checks after news about Nipah virus in Kerala. “The transmission could be caused by fruit consumed by certain types of wild animals and through contact with people on man,” said Mrs. Tanneer, adding that residents and visitors were advised to immediately contact the nearest PHC and the state health department through a specially provided phone number.
“There is no need for panic and no NIPAH virus cases have been reported in Nilgirice,” added the collector, who said three teams from the medical department were represented for symptoms.
“Scheme Ungaludin Stalin”
Mrs. Tanneer spoke about the readiness measures that are carried out in the district to minimize the chances of a virus entering the Nilgiris during briefing about the “Ungaludin Stalin” scheme, which is to be opened since Tuesdays across municipalities, city Panchayats and village Panchayats.
The collector said that this program, which was established to identify the public complaints, would be carried out in five municipalities, 10 urban panchayatts and 35 villages of Panchayats in Nilgiris. There would be 292 camps.
Camps would take place between 9:00 and 15:00
