
South Central Railway (SCR) has completed track renewal of 643 km during the current financial year till December. In addition, 24 manned level crossings were removed and 39 road under-bridges (RuB) and 19 road over-bridges (RoB) were constructed to improve both road and rail safety.
Addressing the railway staff after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of Republic Day, General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said that Automatic Block Signaling (ABS) has been commissioned on a total length of 435 kilometers of the route – the highest progress achieved so far on any zonal railway. As part of modern signaling initiatives, 14 electronic signal boxes, three block axle counters and nine new inter-block signaling systems were put into operation.
The zone recorded a gross original income of ₹ 15,579 crore between April and December 2025, reflecting an increase of 4% over the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Cargo handling crossed a record 100 million tonnes in an all-time shortest period of just 257 days during the current fiscal and is on track to achieve the highest cargo handling in any financial year, the CEO said.
During the same period, the zone saw an increase of about 216 million passengers, generating revenue of ₹ 4,611 crore – an increase of 8% over the previous fiscal. Infrastructure works completed during the year include 30 km of doubling, 115 km of tripling and 2 km of bypass. Dualing works have been carried out between Panyam and Nandyal under the Guntur-Guntakal dualling project and between Basar and Navipet under the Mudkhed-Medchal dualling project.
Third line work has been carried out in various parts of Vijayawada-Kazipet, Kazipet-Balharshah and Vijayawada-Gudur tripling projects. All these projects are expected to be completed during the current financial year, he said.
SCR also commissioned 9,781 MWp of solar panels, harnessing solar energy for a total capacity of 23.2 MWp. With 28 new stations receiving star rating, the total number of star stations has increased to 61. Scrap sales generated ₹ 447 crore in the first nine months of the year – 25% more than the proportional target – it added.
